I’ve built a YouTube channel to 87,000+ subscribers that generates millions of views and drives hundreds of thousands in revenue. But I made a lot of mistakes along the way. Here’s what I’d do differently.
Mistake 1: Trying to Appeal to Everyone
My early videos were generic business advice. They got views but attracted the wrong audience — people who wanted free advice, not people who wanted to invest in coaching. Once I niched down to online education business owners, conversions exploded.
Mistake 2: Not Including CTAs From Day One
For the first 6 months, I posted great content with zero call to action. No link, no booking page, no next step. I was essentially running a free education channel. The moment I added CTAs to every video, revenue followed immediately.
Mistake 3: Overthinking Production Quality
I spent too long worrying about cameras, lighting, and editing before I’d even proven my content worked. My best-performing videos were shot on a phone with natural light. Content quality beats production quality every time.
Mistake 4: Not Repurposing Content
Every long-form YouTube video contains 3–5 short-form clips, an email, a blog post, and multiple social posts. I left this content on the table for years before building a repurposing system.
Mistake 5: Inconsistency
I’d post 3 videos one week, then nothing for a month. The algorithm punishes inconsistency and so does your audience. The moment I committed to a consistent posting schedule, everything changed.
